Hello, I’m Martha. My friends call me Marf, although for the sake of etiquette and elegance let’s stick with ‘Martha’.
I’m a Graphic Designer, and am currently working for a pretty cracking event management company near Stourbridge. For the past 9 years I have worked on a variety of public and private sector accounts, for new businesses and national brands (some of which can be seen in my portfolio).
A Cardiffian at heart, I broadened my horizons midlands-way and graduated from Birmingham City University in 2007 with First Class Honours in Visual Communication (I would love to paint the image of breezing through and filing my nails whilst achieving said First; however it took a bit more than that. There’s natural talent in there, though. Honest).
From a young age I used to carry pencils around with me in the playground, doodling and sketching every chance I had. As I grew older, I moved with the times and acquired a Macbook and was determined to turn that hobby into a career. I developed a fascination with Typography, and utilised my keen eye for detail. I learnt what made a perfect composition and discovered that it’s the finer details that make a great designer. Those are the things that come with experience.
I’ll be frank, anyone can throw a Photoshop filter on an image and a default font on top of it. We’ve come a long way since MS Paint – and in the same way that the availability of digital photography has made a generation of David Bailey wannabes, the popularity of editing programmes makes everyone think that they can perfect typography in their sleep. Not so – it’s the detail that really matters; the spacing between two letters or the subtle differences between colour palettes.
I possess the experience to combine the ideas of a client with my knowledge as a designer and create something that is both well-designed and in response to a given brief. If you’re not 100% sure on what you want from a graphic design point of view, then I am more than happy to utilise my knowledge and experience to lead you to a mutually satisfying conclusion.
If you like what you see (in the least salacious way possible) and would like to contact me for any reason, I would love to hear from you. You can find my rates and an idea of pricing here. My CV is available on request – don’t give it all away straight up, keep an air of mystery and all that – so please don’t be afraid to ask.
I look forward to hearing from you. While playing it cool, obviously.
